Case Study: KSI v Logan Paul

The biggest event in internet history

We were so excited to get involved with the KSI and Logan Paul fight. Here’s how it went down behind the scenes.

KSI v Logan Paul II

I know what you’re thinking…How did we even get involved with this?

Well, here it is…

Background

The UK’s biggest social media star KSI needed a new physiotherapist for his boxing fight against the USA’s biggest social media star, Logan Paul.

KSI had a niggling shoulder injury he’d been trying to sort for some time. We’d been put in touch through a mutual channel and I ended up offering him a physiotherapy session.

This was the turning point.

Not only did I fix his shoulder, but I built it to a point where it became stronger and way more resilient. The mobility & movement was back and stronger than ever!

Because of that, he asked me to be his physiotherapist.

With KSI v Logan Paul II approaching we had some work to do.

Prep

KSI’s boxing camp took place in Las Vegas with the Mayweathers.

Yeah…the Mayweathers!

He asked me if I wanted to fly out with him.

What did I say?

Yes of course! It was an offer I couldn't decline.

During the boxing camp, the aim for me was simple. Keep him injury free!

His body was taking a battering from training twice a day but we didn’t wan’t that to take its toll on progress.

So I ran high-intensity physiotherapy sessions 3 times a week.

Build Up

We wanted to keep him as fresh as possible and build his performance to peak power on Fight Night. So, the physiotherapy included a range of different techniques such as:

  • Sports massage

  • Graston

  • Cupping

  • Our proprietary Bulletproof exercises and dry needling.

Shoulders play a big part!

Your shoulders get rinsed in boxing from the movement and power you’re constantly asking of them. So, we had to focus on keeping those in check.

The other key area is ankles.

From moving around the ring, direction changing, bouncing and even the sprint sessions during camp. His ankle mobility was key.

Again, we made these a priority for our attention.

So, prior to every boxing or strength & conditioning workout, I carried out KSI’s warm up to prevent any injuries from occurring in training.

Injury prevention in Physiotherapy is so much more important than most people realise.

If you can build the resilience to prevent an injury, it’s much easier than needing the months of rehabilitation it take to fix one.

The event

On the day of the fight, we carried out a light mobility session with KSI.

This just made sure he was prepped for the night — without working his body into any sort of fatigue.

All that was left to do was unwind and get ready for the fight.

Game time.

Staples Center, LA.

Now, before going out to fight Logan Paul, I carried out a full body warm up on KSI.

This included things like dynamic stretching, a pre-event massage and active trigger point techniques to make sure his body was ready for war!

We’d hit every milestone and conditioning point he needed. In fact, KSI’s physical health was the best it's ever been!

Time to put it into practice…

And that he did! Dominating the opening rounds before some illegal blows from Logan Paul slowed things down. KSI continued to pressure and eventually defeat Logan Paul, with the judges ruling him to be the winner after six rounds.

Mission accomplished! Let’s celebrate!

Post Event

The next day I carried out a full body deep tissue massage.

We wanted to relieve any aches and pains he had from the fight. This is an important part of recovery and the results you can get from it really do help your body to bounce back.

The sheer amount of adrenaline that runs through you when participating in an event like this starts to become apparent in the days following. So, it’s crucial that we helped his body process this on top of the muscle fatigue that boxing generates.

Today…

He’s still going from strength to strength!
